Best Bar None Platinum award winning pub with lounge bar serving meals, public bar, where dogs are welcome, a function room for any event and a lovely beer garden. Established in the small village of Mid Calder in 1747, this pub is one of the busiest meeting places in the area. Black Bull Inn is at the heart of the community, and enjoys a prime location, sitting snugly in the shadow of its new town neighbour, Livingston, close to nearby rail links. Uphall & Livingston South Stations are the nearest railway stations with access to and from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Regular public transport is available in and out of Edinburgh as well as locally around the Calders and Livingston. Lothian Bus operate the X27 & X28 services, with First Bus also running the 23 service, all of which go between Edinburgh and Bathgate stopping in Mid Calder.

Lunch at Black Bull

Had a really nice lunch on Tuesday 18th February . They do a special on a Tuesday of two fish and chips for price of one, and the fish is so succulent and fresh, there is a choice of batter or breadcrumbs, the batter is so light and NOT greasy at all. The breadcrumbs are quite light as well, we decided to add bread and butter which is a Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 thing. The meal was finished with Chocolate Fudge cake (warm) and custard. 10 out of 10 for sure.

Great food, nice to have this place so close. Thank you again for a great lunch, even the dog enjoyed her bowl of water.

Friendly staff, very efficient and subtle when we were eating which is good as in some establishments the waiting staff persist in checking every few minutes. Good food some of which cld have been a bit warmer. Nice decor for a village pub/restaurant. Family run which tends to lend to the friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.
